Lemon myrtle [Backhousia citriodora ] also known as lemon scented myrtle and lemon scented ironwood is a flowering plant in the family Myrtaceae, genus Backhousia. It is endemic to the subtropical rainforests of central and south-eastern Queensland with a geographical distribution from Mackay to Brisbane. Lemon myrtle is a renowned bushfood flavouring and is occasionally referred to as the “Queen of the lemon herbs”. The dried leaf has free radical scavenging ability. This wonderful leaf imparts its natural lemon aroma through the subtle Australian Grown green sencha tea make Aunt Myrtle a superb beverage.
